It has not taken long for electronic cigarettes to lose their magic. After being examined by the Food and Drug Administration, it has been found that this product is toxic after all, carcinogens and other toxic elements have been found in this "safe" cigarette.
As a matter of fact, it has been found that several toxic chemicals are present like antifreeze, which is one of the main components of this product.
The FDA's Deputy Commissioner Dr. Joshua Sharfstein said, "Little is known about these products, including how much nicotine is there and what other chemicals may be there. Quality control processes used to manufacture these products are inconsistent or nonexistent," said agency officials.
It is also feared that young people will have easier access to e-cigarette as it is easy to buy, and is not controlled by any kind of government agency, the way tobacco products are.
For those smokers who were relieved to find a socially acceptable alternative to their habit, it is time to start thinking of quitting because it appears that this will be the next target for anti-smoking lobbyists.
