Smoking Bans Spread to College Campuses

Smoking Bans Spread to College CampusesThe number of colleges banning smoking has increased drastically over the past few years, with New York state leading the pack.

Within the United States alone, nearly 300 campuses do not allow smoking. There are 50 campuses that are smoke-free with minimal exceptions.

Bronson Frick, associate director of Nonsmoker's Rights said, "Ozarks Technical Community College really was the leader in the movement for a tobacco free campus policy, and then it sort of spread school by school and became a trend. Community colleges really led the way in this movement, and it's probably because those colleges tend to be slightly smaller. Also, community colleges don't have the issue of residential housing, for the most part."

So if you are in college and a smoker, expect to see a ban like this coming your way. Sure, that will help… NOT!

  • I think smoke-free environments are great and it certainly isn't good if a student smokes in their dorm with a non-smoker. That's gotta be a pain.

The younger set is really hip to new technology. I think a great compromise would be the increasingly popular electronic cigarettes. They have no carcinogens and deliver nicotine in a vapor much like the smoke machines at concerts. There is no odor or harmful second hand smoke.

This would make everyone happy and allow smokers and non-smokers to get along in peace with one another. It certainly would reduce the harm to everyone's health!

I've been using them for months and really enjoy mine. I breathe better and feel better and my family is much happier because of it.
