Smoking Bans on the Rise but Tobacco Use is not Decreasing
Posted in: General
Many people believe that as smoking bans are being implemented in the United States and most of the Western world that the number of tobacco users has also decreased. This is a huge misconception as most ex-smokers have turned to a new source for their fix.
Cigarette sales have decreased by about 30% but as the sales of smokes drop there has been a huge increase in the sales of chewing tobacco, snuff, and small cigars. These products have lower taxation and are a good way of replacing the need for nicotine in public places.
Most anti-smoking campaigns have only been based around the banning of cigarettes but all other products containing tobacco have been ignored. Furthermore, it will be much more difficult to control those who use other tobacco products. If the smoking bans that are being implemented are truly aimed at creating a healthier society, then these products would have already been addressed.
